Pink Floyd - 1970-03-00 - The Lost Zabriskie Point Album : 370 ROMAN YARDS
and/or
Pink Floyd - EXTENDED 370 ROMAN YARDS

This is The Complete Collection of all the known material recorded by Pink Floyd during the Sessions for the Zabriskie Point Soundtrack now released by MQR

What we at MQR present here is a modular opera set in three stages
The core of all this are clearly the eight songs of The Lost Album - 370 Roman Yards,
the great find of all the research, which is the closest thing possible to the album that would have been released by
MGM-PF in 1970 if they had been sole musicians on the soundtrack of the film
The Lost Album was extended with the 8 Main Outtakes, a-la Rhino Rekords release, forming the CD One of the Collection
The CD Two is mainly made by all the Other Outtakes and the Film Versions
The order of the songs of the different blocks follow about the order of the movie scored totally with music by PF

The mixes on this Collection are either the mixes made by PF for release or as close as we could make using the material available
We have restored and enhanced everything using the best technology and skills available to us
The quality of these tracks varies due to the sources used, but we have done our best to make it all sound as good as possible

Notes by the uploader/trader:
This Complete Collection is the natural product of years and years of passionate research applied to the Zabriskie Point topic. Over the years many theories have been presented, and we all know a good researcher has to prove his theories whenever possible. In recent years my dedication has yielded the deserved prizes. I had the luck to get from Glenn Povey what I call simply The Document, part of the ZP recording sheets of EMI studios. I was also able to make contact with Don Hall, the Music Adviser of the movie. I'm honored to say that this contact became a real friendship. With my great satisfaction almost all my theories, even the most incredible, were confirmed

Note:
There was a tape change gap at about 5:40 of Toussaint L'Overture where a little bit is missing. I think everything sounds AOK now though minor "gremlins" may remain that I didn't notice or forgot to mention. On this tour with Phish, there were many odd extra guests and therefore some details may still be missing.

Stereo soundboard plus Sennheiser binaural mics on "dummy head" (live matrix mix). It really sounds a lot like a soundboard-only recording except that some audience noise can be heard low in the mix in the background. Recordings of this show and the three other nights of the "CarloPhornia Four" all sound fantastic. Carlos loved recordings made with the binaural mics and was into making his live tapes sound as good as possible. Highly recommended!

Marooned65's notes:
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the On An Island Tour here's a complete uncirculated recording of the first concert. I bought this as a 3 DVDr set a while ago, so if you want you can call it a liberated dvd.The concert seems to be filmed with the camera on a tripod. The position seems to be last row in the middle. Although the picture quality is blurred you have a good total view what's going on at the stage.

Nipote's notes:
Nice document, I remember very well this first night, after the Mermaid Theatre, in my first days of IFWT hub.The video have a decent audio, but sometimes you can listen phone's interference so I decided to change the audio with the excellent DAT Master for this date (rec 4) taped or from Andreas C or from Rolf, not clear after 10 years.I made two small patches with original audio on the intro of A Pocketful Of Stones and on first notes of Wot's...Uh The Deal.

Note:
This is a soundboard recording, with a pretty good mix, you can hear Bono breathe at times. It is slightly pushing the high frequency distortion level at times, but not so that it takes much away from your listening pleasure. The audience level is very soft, which makes for a strange but interesting effect. 'Dancing Queen' is played as well as a stunning cover of 'Stand By Me'. Good performance from U2. I recommend this to anyone looking for a good ZooTV concert.

Pink Floyd
Belgian TV 1968 (HRV DVD 014)
40th Anniversary Edition

Video: NTSC
Audio: PCM Stereo

The RTB Films, 18 and 19 Feb 1968
01 - Astronomy Domine
02 - Scarecrow
03 - Corporal Clegg
04 - Paintbox
05 - Set The Controls
06 - See Emily Play
07 - Bike
08 - Apples & Oranges

David Gilmour made his film debut with Pink Floyd by recording this series of promotional clips for Belgian TV. Four of the films were shot at RTB TV studios and the remainder in and around Parc de Laeken on the 18th & 19th of February. "Apple & Oranges" was broadcast on the RTB pop music program Vibrato on 27 February. The remaining films, including a photo montage set to "Bike", were shown consecutively as part of the Tienerklanken pop music show broadcast on BRT TV on 31 March.

Kastival Open Air Festival 31 August 1968
Astronomy Domine

Pink Floyd performed in the afternoon on the 1st day of this 3-day festival. The event was filmed by BRT TV and highlights were shown on the Tienerklanken pop music show broadcast on 8 October in a featured segment called "Kastival '68".

Lineage: BBC Reels (format unknown) > DVD-R (PAL) > MPEG-2 (NTSC)/PCM Audio
After years of searching for a significant upgrade of these videos, an unexpected surprise just seemed to fall right into my lap. A very kind, and anonymous, member of Yeeshkul sent me a DVD that was transferred right from the BBC's existing reels. I demuxed the VOB files using VOB Edit, then ran the M2V file through Canopus Procoder for a great NTSC conversion. I remastered the audio from the original broadcast, balancing levels and adding a bit of NR to "Scarecrow" but this is being offered as a 2nd audio track. The main track was assembled by MOB who used various different sources to create an amazing sonic upgrade for these clips.

The audio for the main program (from Astronomy Domine to Bike) was carefully analysed and we arrived to the following conclusions:
- the 3 tracks from The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn are simply the regular versions from the stereo album, converted to mono for the TV broadcast (BRT did not use the mono version of the album)
- Paintbox and See Emily Play were taken from the mono singles (the stereo version of Paintbox would only be released 3 years later, on the 1971 Relics compilation)
- Corporal Clegg and Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun were not officially available at the time (these promo videos were filmed more than 4 months before the official release of A Saucerful Of Secrets album), therefore the audio versions from the BRT TV show are very unique early mono mixes. The difference with the regular version is obvious for Corporal Clegg, with an alternate ending, much more Syd's guitar lines in the background, and a surprising high speed compared to the album version (this track was probably slowed down during the mixdown of the album). And even if Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun sounds similar to the regular version, this is also an early mix, different from the album version (an obvious moment is during the instrumental part before the last verse, where birds noises were added for the album version, and are totally absent here).

Since our source for the TV show had superb video quality but a rather hissy sound, we decided to provide a superior audio track, recreating the mono broadcast audio from CD sources, except for Corporal Clegg and Set The Controls, for which we used the best available "Belgian mono mix" versions floating around ("A Tree Full Of Secrets" for Corporal Clegg, and "Have You Got It Yet? V2.0" for Set The Controls, for which we did some editing in order to correct an "imperfect" patch on the HYGIY version). The resulting experience of watching this 40 year old TV show with superb images and pristine audio is the best you'll ever get! For purists who want to hear the original broadcast audio with hiss, we put this as a second audio track to the DVD.

For Apples & Oranges, the video was taken from a 2nd gen VHS tape copy and the audio was taken from the mono single. This clip also appears on the PFVA 1 DVD.

For the last track, "Kastival 68", the video and audio were taken from the only available source (until now), i.e. the FLV video from YouTube. Some EQ was applied to the rough audio in order to avoid "ear bleeding". ;-)

Thanks again to the anonymous Yeeshkul member for the BBC transfer!

Notes:
A soundboard gem for the Traffic jam. John Barleycorn Deluxe Edition (2011) and John Barleycorn (1999) remaster contain live tracks which were supposedly recorded Nov 18th & 19th 1970 at Fillmore East. I did a detailed comparison (notes below and in an info file) and determined that the live tracks on the 1999 and 2011 releases are not from the same performance as this recording. I also analyzed for mp3 sourcing to see if this was derived from the recording available from Wolfgang's vault, and it is not (frequency analysis attached in comment below). Thanks to Dime Mod for the pre-approval on this. Enjoy!

Disc Three:

Comments:

One of those rare hot summer nights for the Pink Floyd. Echoes is jazzy, even funky a bit at the beginning too. Dave laughs but doesn't screw up. Performance wise this is easily in the top 3 for 1975, and soundwise it's up there with Boston and the rest (maybe not quite L.A.). So this might just be your best bet for a good 75 show. Dark Side is well performed too.

Notes:
Sound is great, given the era in which it was recorded -- very clear vocals and good mix; you can clearly hear a lot of nuance that made this such an interesting tour. I'm not a big Paul Simon collector, but this must be one of the better recordings in circulation from the tour.

nitroangus23 notes:
Ok,so I've recently came into a new bootleg that I'm fairly certain hasn't leaked yet. It's a soundboard Blow Up Your Video Era Tour with Stevie Young on Rhythm guitar. It's a great sounding boot that I got from some guy online. Supposedly the guy I got it from got it from Stevie himself. For Those About To Rock is absent due to the tape running out. He also said,he's only gave about 10 copies out so this one's a rarity. Ripped from a Cassette tape.

Owner notes:
I used the program Clean5 by Pinacle to transfer the cassette to my computer. The cassette is I "think" a copy from the original off the mixing desk. My cassette deck is a Sony Micro HiFi System - Model : CMT NEZ7
