(FM broadcast FLAC)

Artist: Bon Jovi
Date: June 20th, 1987
Venue: Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre
Location: Irvine, CA, USA

Transfer notes:
Unknown (probably very low) cassette generation --> Nakamichi DR-3 --> Audacity (FLAC export w/ compression level 8 )

01 - Pink Flamingos
02 - Raise Your Hands
03 - I'd Die For You
04 - Tokyo Road
05 - Jon talking #1
06 - You Give Love A Bad Name
07 - Wild In The Streets
08 - Jon talking #2
09 - Twist & Shout
10 - Never Say Goodbye
11 - Livin' On A Prayer

NOTE:
I had never heard about this show until a friend of mine found the tape on ebay and another one bought it and was kind it enough to send it over. This one comes from the Soundboard, I honestly have no further information as to whether it was a FM broadcast or if it leaked some other way. The quality is very good and actually improves to (almost) excellent after "Raise Your Hands". When transferring the tape the sound level was quite high which lead to me recording it at some lower level to avoid clipping. Afterwards I grabbed a noise sample, reduced some hiss, used some slight EQ for more clarity and expanded the stereo width and dynamics a bit more. What I personally really like about this recording is how nicely the bass comes through.

There was some confusion about the date of the recording. The tape was labelled as "Irvine Meadows Amp., July 12th 1987" which can't be correct since that date was already after the Canadian shows and the band was playing the East Coast again at that point. Someone pointed me to the bootleg "Where's The Tape Man?" which is supposed to be this but is listed as being from the Long Beach Arena show in January. This couldn't be true since "I'd Die For You" had already taken the spot of "Breakout" and "Never Say Goodbye" the one of "Silent Night" - those changes were made in early March, respectively late May/early June. Furthermore Jon greets the audience as "Good Evening Irvine Meadows!" He talks about not having been there for about 2 years which leads me to the conclusion that it was the first show of their three-night stint. Alright, enough with the theories, just blast the show through your stereo!

Digital transfer from bootleg double LP "Forever Yours" DB 6894, Audience recording

Rec. Info:
bootleg LP -> transfer via Thorens TD 146 and Magix Music Cleaning Lab to harddisk -> Magix Music Cleaning Lab (remaster/edit) -> FLAC (44,1 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo) -> MWP
This bootleg provides one of the best audience recordings from the Isolar II tour. Unfortunately it is not complete (the first track, Warszawa is missing)
and the sound is not consistent. Starting with track 10 the sound gets a bit dull which is intensified towards the end.
There are several breaks between the tracks and Rebel Rebel is at the wrong position (between Alabama Song and Station To Station).
Also it has all the nasty side effects of a bootleg Lp like clicks and crackles.

To improve the sound I did the following:

1. EQ of all tracks from track 10 to track 21. I lifted mostly the treble to a diverse extent and partly also the bass at some positions
2. Remove most of the clicks with the help of Magix Music Cleaning Lab. This succeeded mainly for the high frequent clicks. There are still some low frequent clicks
audible for instance in Sense Of Doubt (here it is a bit disturbing due to the "quietness" of the song). The crackle is still present whereas it is not so intensive.
3. The sound was balanced as there was a big difference between some tracks (even within some tracks).
4. Rebel Rebel was taken from its bootleg position to the correct position at the end.

The result is delivering a quite even sound now and all in all it's very listenable.
There have been several uploads to dime and MWP before but I think nobody was trying to improve the sound of the bootleg so far (with the exception of
speed correction which I did not find necessary here).
Also there seem to exist a high number of bootlegs from the same concert, some of them with even lass tracks and I think also with inferior sound.
It would be great to see the original tape recording some time, maybe also with the missing track Warszawa.
You can find some simple CD-artwork in the artwork section.

Notes:
- Provided info (edited): "The Videotapes from Radiohuset 1967 and Koncerthuset 1969 are copied directly from the video recordings / video tapes in SR's archives to Super VHS tapes. The DVDs have later been made from these Super VHS tapes.
The 1969 concert was long believed to have been lost, and wasn't officially re-discovered until 2005. The Super VHS copy this particular DVD is made from, was however made from the same tape 4-5 years earlier. These recordings are as good as they'll get. There are 3 short flaws on the Konserthuset recording, but these are on SVT's original tape as well, and have not been introduced during the transfer to Super VHS. The flaws in question are at the end of "Fire" (43), at the end of "Red House" (37) and at the end of "Sunshine Of Your Love" (17), at which points the picture gets a little shaky for about 1/2 second each time."
- By far the best available version of the Stockholm 09.01.69 footage (Upgrade of ATM DVD 002 "Konserthuset").
- Circulated @ JPIO march 2006 as part of the "Swedish Masters" vine.

Bowie Says Goodbye To Europe In Montreux
"Mmmm, shall I give 'em 'Low' for the encore, or not?"?A generous David Bowie at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
And the girl next door...
David Bowie ended the European leg of the 'Heathen' tour last night in the Stravinski Hall at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in Montreux, Switzerland. Despite sweltering temperatures, David performed a longer than usual set by rewarding the audience with a similar one to that which he performed in Cologne last week.
He started the show in the very stylish black and white clobber that has become the trademark look of this tour. BowieNet's resident mathematician has predicted that we can expect a similar look for David around the year 2012, if the pattern of 1976, 1990, 2002 is to be continued.
The fans down the front didn't disappoint in terms of launching appropriate items stage-ward at the appropriate lyrical prompts...such as "Just wishing that I had just something you wore", "I'd love to get a letter" and possibly "...your big fat dog" and perhaps even "...the girl next door"!
The first encore saw a return of that lovely little blue jacket that I'll hopefully have some shots of soon, and for the second encore of the entire 'Low' album, (excepting 'Weeping Wall') David wore the long red coat with the black platforms and baggy black trouser affair. He finished the show sans red coat, possibly due to the outrageous temperatures in the hall, but most likely just because he's a sexy sort.
"What do you think of the new hairdo then Gail? it's called The Mistral. ?I got the idea in Nimes...It takes bloody yonks to get it looking like this."
At the end of the show, in a rather surreal scene, some important type (Claude Nobs, the founder of the festival, apparently) presented DB with a huge Swiss cowbell onstage...by all accounts David was almost overcome with laughter as he struggled offstage banging his gift. Remembering his antics with various items during 'Cactus' on this tour, I'm not quite sure how I should interpret the verb "banging"? Whatever, that's a picture I would love to see.

Great show! I had 2nd row seats for this, but they were way on the side.. As most people know the sound sucks at The World Music Theater. This show is a mediocre aud. Would assume it would sound better based on location, but, nope.. Cool show though and a very listenable recording.

Chapters 2 and 5 are audience sourced and not on par with the others.
Chapter 1 is pro-shot(?) though it looks and sounds a little less pristine
then big budget. It is the Feelies at CB's in '78. Too f**king cool

sndchaser version

There's another version of this show floating around with lineage "source/lineage: soundboard > unknown gen tape > unknown gen cdr > flac FLAC: 638 MB, 2cdr", upon spectral analysis it appears to be sourced from my conversion, trimmed down to fit on 2 discs, and noise reduction overapplied to make it sound and test as lossy. This is the original conversion, with no noise reduction applied. There is some tape hiss, but it sounds much clearer than the version circulating.

Review:
An excellent and surprisingly powerful show! Robert's voice is really strong and the band is really cooking right from the first few bars of Immigrant Song. The local swimming pool was tonight's arena of the show (also used as a dance hall in occasion). Prior to the date of the concert or dance, the pool was drained, and a complex wooden support structure was installed in its place, upon which panels of wood flooring would sit. So, not quite the danger was present at the venue as one might think but Plant was wary of that: "I don't know whether the 12-foot end's this one or that one. God help us! I'm sure you must have had a Town Hall! It's gonna be a silly night tonight. We'd like you all to feel at home. Just think of the drop beneath you and the drop that might come eventually!" Dazed And Confused has some really funky jam interludes led by Jones and Page and the end medley is excellent, with Plant's vocal prowess being showcased from the lowest crooning to the highest shrieking. The band also threw in some nice encores on this tour, with Eddie Cochran's Weekend getting aired three times, at Dundee, here in Ipswich, and in Bournemouth, with the latter show also featuring a cover of Jerry Lee Lewis' It'll Be Me. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the tour, however, is the aforementioned performance of Gallow's Pole at this show in Ipswich, being the first known performance of the song since Copenhagen in May 3rd that year.
