Comments: Another great release from the folks at ZigZag. Discs 1 and 2 are from the July 4, 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival show, and do not suffer from the small dropouts that plague the otherwise excellent Gods Meeting from Blue Note. Discs 3 and 4 are the final show of the tour, in excellent mono soundboard quality. It's interesting to compare the performances, as they vary considerably, with the earlier performances far more restrained than the later. Packaging, as with 1998's ECEC release, is a plastic clamshell type with no inserts. Recommended.

This was a truly special run of shows for Def Leppard. The band really took it upon themselves to challenge themselves in a live setting in ways they haven't in a long time. To spice things up, they embraced the idea of opening for themselves, opting to play as the Def Leppard cover band "Ded Flatbird." Each Ded Flatbird set saw a changing setlist every night, culling from a core group of songs. A short intermission followed the roughly 45 minute set, and Def Leppard (proper) would return to play the entire Hysteria album and a two song encore.

This is a compilation of all the songs they played during the residency, assembled to model their set format. It includes three assembled Ded Flatbird sets plus a complete Hysteria set. The songs are pulled from various nights on the run. I will leave the fans to guess which song is from which show.

This mix is for all the fans who went to the shows and helped push the band to elevate their game. Open up a big bag of Doritos, kick back, and play this set loud. If you have issues with the sound, selection of songs, this compilation, or me in general...well have an extra bag of spicy Doritos on me and feel the burn.

This was truly a spectacular showing by the band. Easily the most excited I've gotten for a Def Leppard show. I was glad to see it covered so extensively by a great collaboration of tapers, and now everybody can enjoy some of the choice picks from this run.

NOTES:
Two out of three nights performed at The Warfield during the Earthling tour, opened by the radio broadcast of the morning before the first show. The radio broadcast contains a couple wonderful interview segments and four acoustic numbers -- including the "country" version of "Sacry Monsters (And Super Creeps)". Also of note is that each of the concerts share a unique moment. During the first show, Bowie completely flubs the beginning of "Look Back In Anger" and has a funny cover before restarting the song.  During the second show, he ribs on himself and his earliest songs and then plays a few moments of "Can't Help Thinking About Me", transitioning this into "The Jean Genie". Comments:
This excellent soundboard recording originally came to Dime in April 2005 via Dime user "_pius_", and was reseeded early the following year; it doesn't appear to have been back since, so this may be "new" to many Dime users. This appears to be complete, or nearly so, and features a very high-energy performance by the E Street Band. The highlight (to me) is the live debut of "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," done as a duet with Little Steven; a close second is Chuck Berry's "Little Queenie," a rarely played cover which is always a highlight in any show in which it appears.

Sound quality is excellent, particularly given that it was recorded in the analog era and went through who knows how many generations before reaching the bootlegger. The info file mentions that the "tape has issues," although I don't know what those issues are (if someone finds them, please post to the comments).

Notes: An extracted review from THE FAMOUS ETIQUETTE BOOK...

(Crazy Joe) : And it came to pass that Dylan raised his axe and let forth a mighty chord that rent the very foundation of the earth. And truly it was ground breaking stuff, and many that were to follow tilled the earth that he had broken, and many and varied were the fruits of their labour, but Dylan was the first to plough that land and make fertile the barren rock and bring forth the ghost of electricity.

So beganneth the infamous 1966 "world tour", and this 8 CD box set, containing all of the unreleased circulating soundboard recordings from the tour, is the equivalent of an illuminated manuscript documenting the event...

Ripped and flac'ed by technopop2000, tagged and seeded by surfling july 2013.

This to my ears is the best quality recording of any of the "TEE" catalogue shows I have heard; the sound is crystal clear and well balanced, with a mostly super respectful and very quiet audience that never disturbs the recording. if anything the vocals sound slightly echoey - otherwise this recording is a real treat!

Here's a classic great sounding Buddy Guy/Junior Wells show. The levels were extremely low and there was an annoying 50 hz hum. Thnx to where this came from Original info included,

Another superb collection of undubbed and unedited masters from Venus Productions. The fourth in the series and the best to date. Highlights include the first track Burning Love takes 5-6 and the 1980 re-makes of For Ol' Times' Sake and Bitter They Are. Listen out as well for the infamous barking dog at the end of Way Down. In fact every track on this one is a winner.
